How long is the typical workday?
Election Workers typically arrive to work by 6:00 AM and leave around 8:00 PM on Election Day.
Can I work at my own precinct?
The Election Office will try to assign you to work in your home precinct; but will assign you to a Polling Location based on the needs of the county.
How can I cast my ballot?
Election Workers, as well as all voters, are encouraged to participate in the accurate convenience of Voting by Mail or Voting Early. If you are assigned to work in your home precinct, you may cast your ballot on Election Day.
Can I go home for lunch or run an errand during the workday?
No. All Election Workers are required to remain at their assigned location for the duration of the workday. Election Workers are advised to bring all the necessary food and snacks they will need throughout the day.
Do I have to reapply each year to be an Election Worker?
Once you have worked an election, you are an Active Election Worker, and do not need to reapply each year. However, you will have to complete all required training and exams before every election.
How do I know if I have been appointed to work an election?
You will be notified by the Elections Office regarding your Election Worker position, training schedule and assigned Polling Location.
Can family members work in the same Polling Location?
Family members may work in the same polling location.
What type of training is required to be become an Election Worker?
Per Florida Statute (FS 102.014), Election Workers are required to complete specialized training based on their assigned Election Worker position to accommodate the needs of voters during Early Voting and Election Day.
Do I have to take tests during training?
Yes. All Election Workers are required to pass all exams and hands-on Lab training.
Can I be an Election Worker in Indian River County if I live in another county?
No. Only Registered Voters of Indian River County are eligible to work as Election Workers.
If I miss an election and do not work, can I keep the same position for the next election?
Each election has its own work requirements. You are not guaranteed the same position or to work but will be considered upon request and availability.
