News Release
July 20 Voter Registration Deadline
Indian River County, FL – Indian River County residents must be registered to vote by Monday, July 20 in order to be eligible to vote in the upcoming Primary Election. The registration books close on the 29th day before each election. Once the registration books close, new registrations may be accepted for the purpose of future elections only.
Florida is a closed primary state. During Primary Elections you may only vote for candidates of the party in which you are registered. There is only one exception - if all candidates for an office are of the same party affiliation and the winner will have no opposition in the General Election, all registered voters may vote in that Primary race which is called a Universal Primary Contest. There are three Universal Primary Contests on the August ballot.
Voters wanting to register to vote or change their party affiliation online visit VoteIndianRiver.com. Paper registration applications are available at the Supervisor of Elections Office, public libraries, county offices, city halls, or state agencies that provide public assistance. Completed paper applications must be signed, dated and returned or post marked to the Supervisor of Elections Office by the close of business on Monday, July 20, 2020.
Registered voters may check their registration status at VoteIndianRiver.com. To do so, select “Am I Registered?” on the website. Next, insert your first name, last name, and date of birth and follow the online instructions. Voters may also call the Supervisor of Elections Office at 772-226-3440 to verify their registration status.
